Things to do after you install WordPress Print

Here are things we recommend you can do once you have WordPress installed. These are just suggestions. As you get more familiar with WordPress you will find your own setup you prefer.

  • Remove default post
  • Click on All Posts
  • You will see HelloWorld! post. Hover your mouse over that and you will see four options appear. Click on Trash. This will delete that post.
  • Click on Categories
  • Hover your mouse over Uncategorized and click on Quick Edit. Here you can rename the category Name and Slug to what you want to call it. Ex: Blog. The click Update Category button on the right.
  • Click on Pages
  • Here you will see 2 default pages. Privacy Policy and Sample Page. You can delete these pages. You can keep the Privacy Policy and use it for your own if you like.
  • Click on Appearance
  • Here you can add/remove themes. Delete themes you are not using.
  • Hover your mouse over a theme, that is not in use and click on it.
  • On the bottom right-hand corner you will see Delete. Click to delete the theme
  • To add a new theme, click on the Add New button at the top
  • Here you can search for free themes available on repository. Find a theme you like, move your mouse over the theme you want to install and click Install. Once installed click on Activate to apply it to your site.
  • Under Appearance, click on Widgets
  • In the Sidebar section, click on Meta and hold, and drag it out of the Sidebar and let go of the mouse button to drop it.
  • Click on Plugins
  • Remove the two default plugins by clicking on the Delete option.
  • Click on Settings
  • Under General change Timezone to the desired zone. Scroll down and click Save Changes
  • Click on Permalinks
  • Click on Custom Structure and remove everything in box (/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/)
  • Click on %category% and %postname% just below.
  • In Category base type in a dot or period "."
  • Scroll down and click Save Changes
